Do I need to prepare before my spray tan?

Yes. Preparation directly impacts how your tan develops and fades.

Exfoliate 24 hours before your appointment.  We recommend an exfoliating mitt like this one, not a sugar or salt scrub.  This removes dry, flaky skin and creates a smooth surface for the solution to adhere to. Focus on areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists where buildup tends to happen.

The day of your appointment, arrive with clean, dry skin. That means:

• No lotion
• No body oil
• No deodorant
• No makeup

These products create a barrier and can interfere with even absorption.

If you shave, do it at least 24 hours before your appointment. This allows pores to close and reduces the chance of tiny dots or uneven color.

How long does a spray tan last?

Most custom spray tans last about 5 to 7 days. Some clients see a little longer wear depending on their skin type and how well they follow aftercare instructions.

Longevity depends on three main things:

• How well you exfoliated beforehand

• Your natural skin turnover rate

Hot baths, long showers, chlorine, and heavy sweating can shorten the life of your tan. Gentle cleansing and daily moisturizing help maintain a smooth, even fade.

When should I book my spray tan before an event or vacation?

Timing matters.

For most events, book your appointment 1 to 2 days before. This gives your tan time to fully develop and allows you to complete your first rinse before the big day.

If you are leaving for vacation, book your tan the day before travel or two days before if your schedule allows. This ensures you are fully developed and comfortable before getting on a plane or heading to the beach.

Is spray tanning safe for sensitive skin?

Many clients with sensitive skin get spray tans regularly without issue. However, everyone’s skin is different.

What if it is my first spray tan?

First-time clients are some of our favorites.

If you have never been spray tanned before, here is what you can expect:

Will my spray tan look orange?

No.

Orange results usually happen with automated booths, incorrect shade selection, or poor preparation. A custom spray tan eliminates that guesswork.

At Bronze & Beyond, your tan is applied by hand and the solution we use is selected for  your skin tone and undertone. The goal is a natural-looking glow that enhances your complexion, not masks it.

Your tan should look like you spent a week in the sun, not like you changed colors overnight.

What should I wear to my spray tan?

Comfort is the priority.

You can wear whatever you feel best in during your appointment. Options include:

• Your own bra and underwear
• Our disposable thong
• Our bandeau-style bra
• Going topless if you prefer

We also provide stick-on nipple covers if you prefer a no tan line look.

After your appointment, wear loose, dark clothing. Avoid tight leggings, sports bras, or anything that rubs heavily against the skin while your tan is developing. Be sure to bring loose shoes and no socks to wear home.  The best choice is flip flops.

What happens after my appointment?

Once your tan is applied, you will leave with clear instructions. The most important part is your first rinse.

Rinse at the time we recommend. Do not use soap during that first rinse. Simply rinse with lukewarm water and use your bare hand to push the bronzer off your body until the water runs clear.

After that:

• Pat dry, do not rub
• Begin moisturizing daily
• Avoid exfoliating until you are ready for removal

You can take a soap shower 24 hours after your tan.

Your color will continue to settle over the develop 12 to 24 hours depending on your solution type.
